American Academy of Religion Small Project Grants
The AAR each year grants awards ranging from $500 to $5000 to support projects proposed by AAR members and selected by the AAR Research Grants Review Committee. These projects can be either collaborative or individual. Further information here.

Center for the Study of Religion Visiting Fellowship
The Center for the Study of Religion at Princeton University offers a number of Visiting Fellowships to pre-tenure scholars and recent Ph.D. graduates each year. Fellows devote time to serving the intellectual life of the Center and the University through mentoring graduate and undergraduate students and participating in one of the Center's weekly interdisciplinary seminars Further information here.

The Lilly Endowment
The goals of the Lilly Endowment’s Religion division are to deepen and enrich the religious lives of American Christians, primarily by helping to strengthen their churches; to support the recruitment and education of a new generation of talented ministers and other religious leaders; to encourage theological reflection and religious practices that recover the wisdom of the Christian tradition for our contemporary situation; to support scholars and educators who seek to help the American people to better understand contemporary religion and the role it plays in our public and personal lives; and to strengthen the contributions that religious ideas, practices, values and institutions make to the common good of our society. The Louisville Institute Grants Program
The Louisville Institute has a number of programs which makes grants to pastors, religious institutions, and researchers to support projects intended to contribute to the revitalization of American church life. Further information here.

The Charlotte W. Newcombe Doctoral Dissertation Fellowship
The Charlotte W. Newcombe Doctoral Dissertation Fellowships are designed to encourage original and significant study of ethical or religious values in all fields of the humanities and social sciences, and particularly to help Ph.D. candidates in these fields complete their dissertation work in a timely manner. In addition to topics in religious studies or in ethics (philosophical or religious), dissertations appropriate to the Newcombe Fellowship competition might explore the ethical implications of foreign policy, the values influencing political decisions, the moral codes of other cultures, and religious or ethical issues reflected in history or literature. Wabash Center For Teaching And Learning In Theology And Religion
The Wabash Center offers several grants that enhance the teaching and learning in the fields of religion or theology that support teachers and scholars. Further information here.

Society of the Scientific Study of Religion
The Society for the Scientific Study of Religion offers an annual research awards competition, for which members are invited to apply. Jack Shand Research Awards support research in the social scientific study of religion. Each year the SSSR gives research grants in two categories, small and large. Applicants in either category must have finished the Ph.D. degree and must be members of the SSSR. In the case of co–authored requests, one author must be a member. Applicants may not submit proposals to both programs.

Association for the Sociology of Religion
The Association for the Sociology of Religion makes grants each year for promising research on gender issues, women and religion, and feminist perspectives in the study of religion. Applicants must be members of the ASR at the time of application. Dissertation research is included within the purview of the award. Those who have recently earned the doctorate are especially encouraged to apply.
