Bio Statement: 
Dale K. Andrews is Professor in the Department of Language and Cultures, Faculty of Liberal Arts at Tohoku Gakuin University. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in anthropology from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale (1996). Thereafter, he entered the Department of Religious Studies at Tohoku University to research Japanese shamanism (Master's degree 2000) and then conduct a long-term ethnographic study of religion and politics in rural society (PhD 2007). In 2007 he stumbled upon anime pilgrimages from which grew an interest in the convergence of the online and offline, 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional, digital and analog worlds. He sits on the body of councilors for both the Folklore Society of Japan and the Japanese Association for Religious Studies, as well as the board of directors for the Association for Indology and the Study of Religion.
