Bio Statement:
I have researched and published in the area of media and religion for several decades. My primary focus is on Christianity, but my interests in the area are wide. My early work was in American televangelism, where I wrote one of the early analyses, Religious Television: The American Experience (Sage, 1984). That largely put me off wanting to be involved in program production and I became more interested in the impacts of media on religion and cultural perspectives on the interface between media technologies and the construction of religion. In more recent years I have become interested in historical interactions between media and religion as perspectives in understanding changes taking place today. I'm currently working on a manuscript on the place of media in the historical development of Christianity, due for publication by Wiley-Blackwell in 2014.
